About Badskirt

Badskirt is a sewing, lifestyle and travel blog known for genuine reviews, clever tutorials and humorous anecdotes about life with my kiteboarding husband. My infectious enthusiasm for life flows into the stories and tutorials shared at Badskirt. In addition to the blog, you'll find me on a number of social media sites including Flickr and Facebook where a wide group of followers also contribute to the conversation. Along with my craft expertise; I share travel tales from Japan; stories about growing up in middle America; and adventures from life in Australia.

Process and Product

At Badskirt, the creative process is just as important as the final product. I like to take my readers on the creative journey with me as I work with cotton, linen and wool felt to create bold, striking quilts and vintage-influenced homewares and toys. My work is driven by color - using it to move the eye, stir emotions or to evoke a memory. See more work on my blog and on Flickr

About Amy

Prior to working in craft, I worked in the film and games industry as a 3D Artist and Production Manager. I love all forms of study which led to degrees in computer science and technology management with additional post-graduate coursework in business strategy, marketing, computer graphics and art. Within the craft industry, I've owned an online fabric shop, sold bespoke toys and homewares at markets, written sewing patterns and worked as a technical editor for some of Australia's patchwork magazines. My creative influences include Japanese quilt and textile designers like Suzuko Koseki and Kumiko Fujita, 1940's and 50's trade brochures, early 1960's marketing illustrations and the color work of Mark Rothko and Josef Albers. When I'm not busy making things I can be found perusing mid-century design, lusting after vintage caravans, restoring classic lawnchairs, making dymo labels, traveling or taking photos. I'm always up for a roadtrip with my partner in life, my husband Craig, at my side.
